Through the copper beech!
Commissioned by Sonya and Paul Latham, the challenge was to paint their home differently. I chose to see their house through the stunning copper beech tree that glorifies their garden. In early spring this tree is a deep crimson brown, it’s the king of trees.
In the autumn it changes to green and gold and burnt sienna. Sonya was walking across the lawn as I watched and it made the perfect painting. I think that looking through the copper beech makes you work harder as a viewer.
