Where does inspiration come from?
Where does inspiration come from?
The cycling artist… is how I’m known. I am always on the look out for landscapes, people, and places that inspire my art.
I find that my bicycle gets me to places and situations that lead to artistic endeavour. I’ll carry the sketchbook and a box of watercolours all the time, usually in the pannier. There’s also often the opportunity to pack acrylics and board and use the bike rack as my easel.
It’s easy to stop on a bicycle whenever inspiration comes my way.
That may be in the skies - constant changing cloud and light patterns deliver moods, tones and illumination. It’s not just the cliches of sunrise and sunset either. Weather patterns, wind, storms, can produce dramatic settings for the landscape artist.
The seasons are inspirational too. Winter brings the skeletal, sculptured trees and low winter sun,. Springtime, the early carpet of colour in crocuses, daffodils along the roadsides. Summer the haze of heat and the saturation of colour. Autumn brings the moods and mists and mellow fruitfulness.
There is always inspiration wherever we may look. The important thing to do is seize the day and paint the inspiration!
